Firm Gets Financing for Tara Theme Park

ATLANTA _ The developers of the "Gone With the Wind" theme park in Douglas County, Ga., have nailed down the country's 10th largest real estate investment bank to raise the $50 million needed to build Tara and the rest of the project's first phase.

Mark Driscoll, president of Georgia Holdings, the company developing the project, said McDonald Company Securities is on a fast track to raise the money in 90 days so that construction can begin in the spring.

Driscoll said that McDonald agents "called up key investors to get a feel before they committed to us. Based on (McDonald's) excitement in this, we feel confident" of raising the money.

"We don't get paid unless we get investors; we don't have time to work on losers," said Vic Faris, a McDonald vice president. "It's a great project. Can I guarantee it'll get done? No way. But I know what investors will do.

"What test marketing we did is basically in other deals we've been involved with," Faris said. …
