Electric Vehicle Show to Include Sports Car

An electric sports car developed by the University of Oklahoma will be on display next week in the Central Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibit at the Myriad Convention Center.

The high-performance, Maserati-type electric sports car goes from zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds and reaches speeds in excess of 190 miles per hour.

Sponsored by OG E Electric Services of Oklahoma City and the Central Electric Vehicle Coalition with assistance from OU, the two-day symposium and exhibit will begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with a keynote address by U.S. Rep. Dave McCurdy, who has taken an active role in shaping electric-vehicle policy and development.

Other featured speakers include: Richard King, director of alternate fuels for the U.S. Department of Energy. Robert Davis of Chrysler Corp., who will speak on the U.S. Advanced Battery Consortium. John Dabels, of U.S. Electricar, who will discuss the fleet advantages of electric vehicles. Michael Lechner, consultant to the Electric Power Research Institute, who will talk about infrastructure development.

The symposium will explore electric vehicle issues, recent technical developments and the progress made in providing a user-ready environment for a large-scale shift toward electric-powered vehicles by the American public.

In addition to the high-performance sports car, on display will be a 1904 Pope Electric automobile, OU's Indianapolis-style race car and a wide range of electric cars. Participants will be able to ride in and drive many of the cars.

The Central Electric Vehicle Coalition is an organization of central U.S. utility providers, electric vehicle and component manufacturers, research universities, and government and non-profit agencies interested in the electric vehicle industry. The organization is actively involved in informing the public about electric vehicles and encouraging their use in the region. …
