Oklahoma City's Myriad Convention Center has been selected as a site for the first and second round regional play-offs for the 1998 National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament, it was announced Friday.

Chicago's United Arena will be the other site for first- and second-round Midwest Regional play-off games in 1998, while St. Louis' Kyle Stadium will be site of the Midwest Regional "Sweet 16." The St. Louis winner will advance to the Final Four competition and vie for the national title.

Other stadiums that were considered as one of the sites for the 1998 Midwest Regional were Minneapolis' Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome and Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium.

John Underwood, OU assistant athletic director, will be tournament director, Draper said.

A couple of factors were behind Oklahoma City's selection for one of the tournament sites.

"Last year we sold out four days after the tickets went on sale, the fastest sellout they've ever had," he said. "I'm sure this was one of the major factors in our selection."

Others were the way previous tournaments have been conducted, the availability of hotel rooms and service to spectators and participants. …
