UroCor Inc. is the new name for Oklahoma City-based CytoDiagnostics Inc., it was announced Monday.

Besides the name change, the company has also created two operating divisions and has added four members to its board of directors.

"The name change to UroCor is important to allow us to pursue a broader business strategy," said Bill Hagstrom, president and chief executive officer of the biotechnology company.

"The company's emphasis is in urology and the name has not reflected that, potentially limiting our marketing and technology sourcing activities," he said. "The new name signals our emphasis and commitment to providing diagnostics, information technology and eventually therapeutics for the field of urology."

The new name will be phased in over three to six months.

The firm also is making structural changes, forming two divisions from within the company. "We have really created two businesses within the existing company over the last several years, one a highly successful service diagnostics business and the second an emerging technology business," Hagstrom said.

Mark Dimitroff, as vice president and general manager, will head the first division, UroDiagnostics Group, which includes the company's diagnostic services and marketing, sales, pathology and operations capabilities.

The UroSciences Group will be led by Dr. Bob Veltri, vice president and general manager. This division will include the scientific and technical resources in the company's current research and development department.

"This decentralized approach will allow these two natural business units to have the resources needed to ensure continued success and expansion while working effectively together as a team," Hagstrom said.

"Our long range goal is to become the strongest disease management organization for the field of urology, following a patient's disease from diagnosis through treatment. …
