A rezoning application that would continue construction on a shell building begun in 1984 was recommended for denial by the Oklahoma City Planning Commission.

Oklahoma City Council will make the final decision on the application by J.C. Goodwin to rezone 8100 N. May Ave. from single-family residential to a simplified planned unit development.

The two-story steel framing originally was intended for a 32,000-square-foot jewelry store and office, but construction ceased 11 years ago when it was learned the property was improperly zoned.

Also recommended for denial was an application by Goodwin to rezone a residential lot adjacent to the north for single-story office uses.

Several dozen residents attended the planning commission meeting Thursday to protest additional commercial development along May Ave.

In other action, the planning commission recommended approval of a rezoning application allowing construction of a physicians' clinic at 6601 W. Hefner Rd.

Oklahoma Healthcare Realty Corp., a sister company of Baptist Medical Center, applied to rezone the property from a planned unit development to SPUD. It is for construction of a 9,000-square-foot family practice clinic fronting a residential development along Hefner Rd., several blocks east of Rockwell Ave.

If approved by City Council, construction could start within 30 days. General contractor is J.L. Walker Construction Inc. of Oklahoma City. Architect is Michael Mahaffey Associates of Oklahoma City.

In other recommendations to city council, the planning commission: Approved extension of the final plat of Twin Oaks 10th Addition, located north of NW 178th St. and west of Western Ave. Land Developers Inc. is developer, and MGR Inc. is engineer. Approved the final plat of Stonegate Manor, located south of SW 149th St. and east of Western Ave. Stonegate Manor Ltd. proposes 33 single-family lots on 10.3 acres. Design Engineers Inc. is engineer. Approved the final plat of The Meadows at River Bend, located south of Wilshire Blvd. and west of Council Rd. W.
