OKC Same Store Sales Growth Tops Barometers

HOUSTON -- August same store retail sales in Oklahoma City rose 3.5 percent from the same month a year earlier.

Oklahoma City's increase exceeded increases of 3.1 percent nationwide, 1.9 percent statewide and 3.1 percent for Tulsa.

But the city did not do as well as the entire Southwest, which had an increase of 6 percent for the month, according to a monthly report released Thursday by TeleCheck Services Inc., a Houston-based check acceptance company. The 6 percent increase for the Southwest was the highest for any of the six regions in the TeleCheck Retail Index. The Southwest region includes Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. August same-store sales for other regions included Mid-Atlantic, up 5 percent; Southeast and Midwest, both up 4.5 percent; West, up 1 percent; and Northeast, down 1.4 percent.
