Party Time, Pardners

Article excerpt

It's time to get out those boots and bolos and whatever it is you choose to wear to two upcoming western parties. One of these parties is in its ninth year and the other is a new two-stepper.

St. Anthony Hospital will saddle up for its first Scoot'n-A-Boot, scheduled Saturday, Sept. 7, at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. Cowboys and cowgirls will be entertained by Argus Hamilton, who also will don spurs to prod them into making big purchases at the silent auction.

The evening also will include dinner -- western barbecue, of course -- and dancing to music by Sailor.

Tickets are $100 per person, with proceeds benefiting the hospital's new emergency center that is about to be built. For additional information or a reservation, call the St. Anthony Foundation at 272-7070. This party will replace the Heavenly Evening dinners St. Anthony has sponsored for the past three years.

Singer Ray Grizzell, who has just completed his first CD recording in Nashville, will entertain and sing a song, the lyrics of which he co-authored for the survivors and those who lost their lives in the Oklahoma City bombing. Appearing with him will be Royia Sims, a survivor of the bombing and author of a book about her experience.

John Linehan and Judy Love are co-chairing the benefit; committee members include Barbara Brou, Tom Dulaney, Jamie Farha, Jan Marion and Mike Milligan.

The other western party, on Sept. 13 and also at the National Cowboy Hall, is the Bolo Ball, a festive two-stepping time which usually is SRO. This party will celebrate the Prix de West winner, "The Trophy," by Howard Terpning. Doors and exhibitions will open at 7:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 8:30 p.m. At 9 p.m., dancing with Dave Alexander and the Legends of Western Swing will begin.

Creative cowboy western dress is suggested for this party for which advance reservations are required. A preferred table for 10 is $750 and a reserved table for 10 is $500. General admission reservations are $45 per person. Sponsored by the National Cowboy Hall and Persimmon Hill Associates, the Bolo Ball benefits various projects at the hall.

Bolo Ball T-shirts also may be ordered along with dinner reservations.

Don't put those golf clubs away

Three more golf tourneys are coming up. Where do all those golfers come from?

Express Personnel Services will host its second annual Children's Miracle Network Golf Marathon on Friday, Sept. 6, at Surrey Hills Golf and Country Club in Yukon. This Miracle Marathon will benefit Children's Hospital of Oklahoma and Children's Miracle Network and will include golfers from Express and other Oklahoma business organizations. …
