College of Medicine Names Folger Clinical Practice Associate Dean

C. Douglas Folger, former vice president of medical affairs at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, has been named associate dean for clinical practice at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and as medical director of University Physicians Medical Group.

"His demonstrated ability as a physician lead-er will be a tremendous asset to University Physicians Medical Group as it continues to improve clinical care, develop the clinical enterprise, and provide the best possible foundation for medical education," said Jerry B. Vannatta, executive dean of the OU College of Medicine.

Folger attended the University of Oklahoma on a baseball scholarship and received a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1970. He graduated from the OU College of Medicine in 1974.

Folger practiced internal medicine at the Oklahoma City Clinic from 1978 to 1980 and for 14 years with Medical Specialists Inc. before joining Presbyterian Hospital in 1994. He has been on the volunteer faculty at the OU College of Medicine since 1978.

Other career moves

Phillip Hudson has been named vice president and chief financial officer for HealthCare Oklahoma.

Bruce Whitehurst, vice president marketing, has been given the added responsibility of customer service, said Jon Friesen, president of HealthCare Oklahoma.

Hudson joins HealthCare Oklahoma after having been with Southwest Health Alliances Inc. in Amarillo for five years.

With HealthCare Oklahoma, Hudson will oversee claims, information systems, accounting and financial planning and analysis. He will focus on integrating financial planning, reporting and tracking with other areas of the company.

Whitehurst was named vice president of marketing in December. In his new position as executive vice president of marketing and customer service, he will continue to focus on developing products and programs and extend the company's offerings to business, Medicare recipients and other potential markets. Whitehurst also assumes responsibility for customer service with a strong orientation toward membership retention.

Christine Gasper has left a group dentistry practice to relocate her private practice to Lakeside Office Building, 6715 N. May Ave.

Gasper, an Oklahoma City native, graduated from John Marshall High School in 1971, the University of Central Oklahoma in 1975 and the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 1979.

She has been an instructor at Rose State College in the department of dental hygiene and dental assisting as well as serving as clinical supervising dentist.

Continuing education

The ninth annual Women's Health Forum September Lecture Series is scheduled for Sept. 16-21. It is sponsored by Integris Baptist Medical Center and Integris Southwest Medical Center.

Speakers will include Linda Evans, an actress best known as Krystle Carrington on the television series Dynasty; Nanette Fabray, singer, dancer and comedienne; Martin Seligman, author of The Optimistic Child; David Elkind, author of The Hurried Child; and Tessa Warschaw, author of Resiliency.

Those attending the forum will be able to participate in physician roundtable discussions covering a variety of topics including skin cancer, menopause, pulmonary disorders, stress management, head-aches and sleep disorders. …
