State, U.S. Rig Counts Post Hikes

Oklahoma's active drilling rig count climbed to its highest level since May 10 for the July 4 holiday week.

The state's active rig count for the week was 120, up seven from the previous week and up from 105 a year earlier.

It was the second consecutive weekly increase for the state rig count and its highest level since it was 122 for the week ended May 10. The highest rig count for the state this year was 124 for both the first week of May and the last week of April.

The national rig count for the week rose five to 782 from 777 the previous week. The national count was up from 714 a year earlier, according to Baker Hughes Inc. of Houston.

It was the highest weekly U.S. rig count since the last week of 1994, when there were 791 active rigs.

The national rig count was at its lowest point of 1996 in mid- March, when it fell to 693. …
