Keating Appoints Wes Watkins' Wife to Board of Regents

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Lou Watkins, the wife of congressman-elect Wes Watkins, was named Friday to serve an eight-year term on the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges.

"Lou holds two degrees from Oklahoma State University and has been a longtime higher education leader in the state of Oklahoma," Gov. Frank Keating said in announcing the appointment. "She is extremely well qualified and will do an excellent job."

Mrs. Watkins, who lives in Stillwater, succeeds Jimmie Thomas of Ada on the panel. In addition to Oklahoma State, the board governs Langston University, Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Connors State University and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. In other appointments, Keating: * Named Dr. Randy Sheets of Altus to the Board of Regents of Western Oklahoma State College for a term expiring March 24, 1998.He succeeds David Braddock. Senate confirmation is required. * Named Judge Richard Mason of Norman as presiding judge of the Oklahoma Workers Compensation Court to serve a two-year term ending Jan. 1, 1999. He succeeds Judge Susan Conyers. * Selected Cy Elmburg of Afton for a five-year term on the Oklahoma Capital Investment Board, succeeding Marshall Weissman. Senate confirmation is required. * Appointed Paula Cotton of Broken Arrow to the Oklahoma State Credit Union Board for a term ending Oct. 11, 2000.
