New hope for the mileage maniacs

http://www.status.com

There's something about being in a frequent flyer program that makes some people go a little off on the subject. They fly to Minneapolis via Atlanta to get more miles, they get mileage- awarding credit cards, even buy mutual funds that award miles. And they audit those monthly mileage statements as though they contained gold. For these people, here's a helpful new (and free) Web site maintained by the publisher of Flyer's Edge, the magazine for frequent flyers. You start using it by signing up, getting a password and ID, and providing the Webmaster with details of your accounts with airlines and hotels. (Several majors belong and Flyer's Edge is signing up more all the time.) This site is free to users because it's also a travel agency that can make money booking your tickets, although you don't have to use it for that. The Web site's computer checks with the airlines and hotels frequently -- at least weekly -- and electronically updates your accounts accordingly. That way you can go on-line whenever you like to check all your accounts at once, getting a jump of several weeks to several months before your paper statements arrive in the mail. This is especially good if you are teetering on the edge of having enough points or miles to take a big trip, or if you simply are just an anal retentive perfectionist who can't wait to check on the airlines. The Geek is hanging onto his Braniff coupons because, well, hey, you never know. Some things just go together http://pages.ripco.com:8080/~glr/stalk.html Here's a home page for creeps. It's called the Stalker Home Page, and it was created by Glen Roberts, a Pennsylvania radio talk show host (not really surprised, are you?) who wanted to show how easy it is to get all kinds of personal information about anyone you want to stalk, scare, bug, bother or otherwise insult. From this page you can hyperlink to scores of sites that let you get Social Security numbers and home addresses, check military records, property ownership and valuations, find e-mail addresses, poke through FBI records, check political contributors, make traceless phone calls, check vital statistics including birth, death, divorce and marriage records, even look up owners of license plate numbers. …
