Decline in Oklahoma's Rig Count Proves Biggest among Producers

Oklahoma's active rig count for the week ended Friday showed the biggest drop among major producing states.

The state count of 100 was down 11 from the prior week. It was down three from a year earlier, according to a weekly survey conducted by Baker Hughes Inc. of Houston.

Oklahoma's decline partnered with a nine-rig drop for Louisiana to offset a large increase in activity in Texas as the nation's count fell six to 845. The U.S. count was 134 rigs higher compared with the same week in 1996. Rig counts from other major producing states for the week ended Friday included: * Texas -- 337, up 21. * Louisiana -- 115, down nine. * Kansas -- 23, down one. * New Mexico -- 39, up two. * California -- 30, up one. * Colorado -- 16, up one. * Wyoming -- 30, unchanged. * North Dakota -- 18, unchanged. …
