Question: I'm so upset I don't know what to do. My boss, who has always been somewhat unpleasant, has become unbearable. In the past several weeks he's become more verbally abusive and today he screamed at me for five minutes (about something over which I had no control). He used every dirty word he knew, and I thought for a minute he would actually hit me. As he walked away he kicked my desk hard enough to move it six inches across the floor. I was dumbfounded and didn't say a word. I'm a single mother and I really need this job. I know I couldn't make the same salary someplace else. He's really beginning to scare me.

Answer: There is absolutely no excuse for that kind of behavior. Don't be afraid to speak up for yourself. Ask for a transfer ASAP. If your company has a policy for filing grievances my suggestion is to file one against your boss. If these aren't an option, then look for another job.
