Idabel Attorney John E. Shipp to Lead State Bar

John E. Shipp will become the new executive director of the Oklahoma Bar Association.

Effective Jan. 1, the Idabel attorney will replace Marvin Emerson, who is retiring after 16 years of service.

Shipp, president of the OBA in 1985, has been in private practice in Idabel since 1965 and has served as Idabel National Bank Chairman since 1972. He is the director of the Oklahoma Heritage Association and the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. "I didn't think there would ever be a challenge to take me away from Idabel," Shipp said, "but there's nothing I like better than working with the OBA." Shipp is a former member of the OBA board of governors and has served two terms on both the OBA's Professional Responsibility Commission and Professional Responsibility Tribunal. The OBA executive director supervises all programs and projects of the association, in addition to acting as treasurer, preparing the annual budget, supervising a staff of 34 and representing the OBA in the presentation of its legislative program to the Oklahoma Legislature. …
