Center Offers "How-To" Advice on Running a Practice

Lawyers needing "how-to" help with running a practice now can find solutions at the Oklahoma Bar Association's Resource Center.

Stocked with CD-ROMs, videos, magazines and books, the new Resource Center, inside the Oklahoma Bar Center on N. Lincoln Boulevard, is a user-friendly library designed to assist attorneys with everything from staff training to stress management.

The Resource Center offers lawyers the advantage of trying before buying practice management software. Too, attorneys have access to computer publications and sales material. But Jim Calloway, coordinator of the OBA's Management Assistance Program, says the Resource Center isn't just about technology. "A lot of management principles and a lot of management issues are not technologically related," Calloway says. As such, lawyers will find materials on time management, personnel management and trust account management, for example. Publications are available on loan, and many may be purchased at a discount through the American Bar Association. Lawyers need not be ABA members to receive the discount. With over 100 titles, the Resource Center is part of the OBA's newly developed Management Assistance Program created to support lawyers with the business side of practicing. People P. Blake Allen, R. Richard Love and Nancy E. Vaughn have become shareholders with Conner & Winters. Allen graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and has been with Conner & Winters since 1996. He will practice corporate law with an emphasis on securities and mergers and acquisitions in the Oklahoma City office. Also an OU law school graduate, Love joined the firm in 1991 and will focus on civil trial work, securities litigation and securities arbitration in the Tulsa office. Vaughn, with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law, will practice in the Tulsa office emphasizing labor and employment law and estate planning and trust administration. …
