A woman will preside over the Oklahoma State Medical Association for the first time in its 92-year history.

Dr. Mary Anne McCaffree is an Oklahoma City pediatric neonatologist and professor of pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, her alma mater.

"With a mission to promote good health, it is vital we, as physicians, advocate on behalf of our patients," said McCaffree. "My personal mission is to help patients realize the importance of taking an active role in their own health care. During my term as president, I look forward to promoting OSMA programs which help increase awareness of important, timely health issues in Oklahoma." Other officers for fiscal 1999 include: * Dr. Boyd O. Whitlock, president-elect. This Tulsa physician recently retired after a 35-year career in internal medicine. * Dr. Robert J. Weedn, vice president. The Duncan physician practices general, vascular and thoracic surgery. * Dr. David S. Russell, chair -- board of trustees. The diagnostic radiologist practices in Enid. * Dr. C. Wallace Hooser, vice chair -- board of trustees. This diagnostic radiologist practices in Tulsa. Continuing in their current offices will be Dr. Carol B. Imes, secretary-treasurer; Dr. Bruce L. Storms, speaker -- House of Delegates; and Dr. John R. Bozalis, vice speaker -- House of Delegates. More people Judy McMinn, patient care coordinator of Deaconess Hospital's Emergency Services Department, has received the hospital's Outstanding Nurse of the Year award for 1998. Cancer Treatment Center has named David A. Hedges its director of financial services, responsible for reviewing capital expenditure requests, budget planning for capital projects and development of hospital cost controls. …
