Regents to Create Online Job Site for State's College Graduates, Employers

Article excerpt

OKLAHOMA CITY (JR) -- The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education is developing an employment services Web site for Oklahoma students, graduates and employers.

The Oklahoma Marketplace is an effort to better link Oklahoma college and university graduates to Oklahoma jobs. This free service is scheduled to go online this fall.

"It is our hope that the Web site will be a tool for helping keep more Oklahoma college and university graduates in the state and better ensuring that our graduates are appropriately employed," said Chancellor Hans Brisch.

"Currently, 26 percent of Oklahomans graduating from our colleges and universities with bachelor's degrees and 16 percent who earn associate degrees leave the state within five years of graduation," Brisch said. "At the same time, numerous Oklahoma employers are telling us they are having difficulty locating qualified college degree holders.

"It is vital to Oklahoma's economic growth that the state undertake initiatives such as the Oklahoma Marketplace that allow the state to fully capitalize on its most valuable resource, its human potential."

Brisch said that Oklahoma public and private colleges and universities produce almost 26,000 market-ready graduates each year.

The Oklahoma Marketplace will allow students and alumni to create resumes online, search job listings and match their resumes to current job openings. Additional information such as job search tips, career services and contact information for college and university career placement offices will also be provided.

In addition, Oklahoma employers can use the site to post unlimited job listings. They can also match their job listings to online resumes or review resumes of prospective candidates. …
