Calling Twin Hills Golf and Country Club a "disgrace," "mismanaged" and "a disaster, Joseph Cala still is willing to pay above market price to obtain the property.

His Oklahoma City-based Cala Corp. submitted a revised offer of $3.2 million Thursday, down about $200,000 from the original offer.

"When I go out there, I see the beautiful potential that the club has," Cala said. "What we would like to do is remodel the clubhouse, add a world-class spa and bring in someone like Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus to help with the design.

"Then, we would have a world-class golf course that would be built to PGA (Professional Golf Association) standards, something that Oklahoma City could be proud of."

Cala and Twin Hills' directors have been negotiating the purchase since January.

"I finally went in with a revised offer of $3.2 million (about $8,000 per member) so that we can get this ended," Cala said. "From everything the members tell me, if the board takes the offer to them, they will vote yes on it.

"This offer is still about $400,000 above fair market value."

As part of the offer, Cala will honor all existing membership contracts.

"Until we finish with the renovation and remodeling, everything (fee structure) will remain the same as it is now," he said.

If Cala's offer is accepted, he plans to retain the firm of Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo, a resort, hotel and gaming architectural firm, to renovate or replace the clubhouse and restaurant facilities.

Designer Arthur Firmes of California has been retained to develop the Roman-type spa that will be built near the clubhouse.

It's not known if the clubhouse will be enlarged during the renovation.

Cala Corp. also has commissioned local artist Summer Wheat to paint several pictures and supervise some of the glass work in the clubhouse.

"She is one of the finest local artists around and she will be one of the world's finest one of these days," Cala said. "She does great work with glass, so she will handle some of our ceiling and window glass work. …
