Eighth Annual Red Tie Night Set for March 4

Article excerpt

The invitation is different and the setting will be different but the eighth annual Red Tie Night gala will be as elegant and as delightful as in the past years.

The invitation features a dew-sprinkled red rose loosely tied with a red ribbon. The new setting for the black-tie party will be the Myriad Ballroon, with arrangements by the Renaissance Hotel. Sponsored by and benefiting the Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund, the gala will be at 7 p.m. March 4 with dinner at 8:15 p.m. and then the always-fabulous auction -- only five items this year. Michael Carney and his orchestra will be here from New York City to play for dancing throughout the evening.

Reservations for Red Tie Night are $150 per person. Guarantor tables of 10, which include invitations to the patron party prior to the gala, are $10,000. Underwriter tables for eight guests and the patron party are $5,000; Benefactor tables for six and the pre- party, $3,000; Sponsor tables for four and the pre-party, $1,500, and Patron reservations for two and the pre-party, $600. Checks made out to Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund may be mailed to Loretta Brower, P.O. Box 134, Edmond 73085-0134.

Proceeds benefit numerous nonprofit agencies which deal in HIV/ AIDs health, education and research. Last year's gala netted $311,000, which was distributed to 14 agencies. Barbara Cooper is chairman and founder of the Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund and of the Red Tie Night benefits. She and her husband, Jackie, lost a son to AIDS several years ago.

Sue Ann Hyde is party chairman and Mike McAulilffe is her co- chairman and will serve as chairman for Red Tie Night 2001.

Up for bids at this year's gala will be a work of art created by the world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, provided by Chihuly, Leslie Jackson and Mark Mattison.

Jackie Cooper is providing a BMW M5, known as the world's most powerful sedan, and a cruise to the ultimate millennium golf event in Scotland, July 18-25. A British Open Golf Championship is being provided by the Red Tie Night Committee, American Airlines, Prime Time Travel, Perry Golf and Scotia Golf. Four lucky golf fans will fly to London, sail from there to the Old Course at St. Andrews. During the seven-night event, the QE2 will provide luxury, floating hotel accommodations.

A trip for two to Maui, including air fare, Maui Renaissance Hotel accommodations and rental car, will be up for auction, thanks to the Renaissance Oklahoma City Hotel, Bledsoe Norick McAuliffe Advertising and American Airlines. The fifth auction item will be a round-trip for two to Miami and a seven-night sailing on the Voyager of the Seas, provided by Seagrave Travel and American Airlines. In addition, a Napa Valley trip and a trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, will available.

Red Tie Night's claim to fame, in addition to the cause it serves, is the beauty of the evening where magnificent floral arrangements highlight the surroundings as well as centering the tables. …
