Applewoods Joins Eateries on Memorial

It's the kind of news that will make an apple-fritter-loving heart beat with joy.

Despite the announced closing of Applewoods at 4301 SW Third St., the business was given a new lease on life Tuesday -- both literally and figuratively -- when owner Dick Stubbs announced the signing of a 10-year lease for Applewoods at 2747 W. Memorial Road.

The new site, formerly home to Maxwell's Restaurant near Quail Springs Mall, is a 7,000-square-foot building. While the new location will be home to Applewoods restaurant, Stubbs said the banquet portion of the business, always a large part of the old location's claim to fame, will have to be located elsewhere.

"It's a smaller building so we will not be able to move our banquet department," Stubbs said.

However, he plans to reopen the banquet portion of the business at some future date.

"We're still looking for a location to move our banquet department to," Stubbs said. "But we're gonna concentrate on getting this one open first and then start looking harder. …
