More Business Travelers Take the Family Along

I'm sure that as a business traveler, you've had an occasion when you come home from a day at the office, where you were told that you "have" to attend a convention in Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles or maybe even the Bahamas.

As you tell your spouse about the trip, they get that dreamy look in his or her eyes; the one that says "wouldn't it be nice if I could go with you?" When this happens to you, you're not alone.

There is a growing trend in travel that began to flourish in recent years in vacation trips being combined with meeting trips. It certainly makes a lot of sense. Spouse programs during conventions may very well include sightseeing pleasures, leisure activities like fishing, golfing, cultural presentations and other events that can be enjoyed by participants of all ages.

Many companies encourage their employees to bring their spouses, and schedule spouse programs in advance. Even if there is no spouse program, a scheduled business meeting in an enticing location can be a getaway possibility for family members. Plus the fact that the expenses are paid for the business person may present itself as a great opportunity not to be passed up.

Our business trends and surveys are showing that more business travelers are taking the family along on business trips. We are seeing more multi-generation families traveling together; there are times when even the grandparents are traveling along. Especially when the destination is somewhere in Europe where there is family history and heritage.

One thing that should always be remembered in multi-generation travel is that older and younger travelers have different energy levels and different interest. When meetings are set in a resort environment, that problem can be easily solved. Most resorts have scheduled activities for people of all ages, and some even have certified child care centers, and teen discos. The ideal meeting and convention surrounding is at an all-inclusive resort, everything is included. …
