Retired Counsel for OKC-Based Devon Energy Named to Panhandle Directors Board

Duke Ligon retired last year as general counsel for Devon Energy, but he's a long way from retirement.

Ligon on Wednesday was named to the board of directors of Panhandle Oil and Gas Inc.

Mike Coffman, president and chief executive officer of Panhandle, said the company is fortunate to have landed Ligon on its board.

"We were just really lucky to get someone with his background from Devon Energy and from Wall Street," Coffman said. "We're a small company trying to take a leap forward and someone like him helps."

Ligon said the plan all along was to stay busy.

"I certainly never meant to retire, and I haven't," said Ligon, who is executive director of the Love's Entrepreneurship Center at Oklahoma City University and a strategic advisor to Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores.

Ligon said he's excited to be on the board of Panhandle, which was founded in 1927 as Panhandle Royalty Co. and in recent years has moved from royalty to exploration and production. …
