The Opposition N-D-P is accusing Premier Christy Clark of cherry picking numbers as she reports on the progress of her jobs plan.

Clark offered a glowing review of her jobs plan, saying her government has been working hard to promote trade and reduce red tape for businesses.

She listed several projects that have been approved in the past six months, and pointed to the creation of nearly 40-thousand jobs -- a figure that actually dates back a full year, not six months.

N-D-P finance critic Bruce Ralston says Clark is quick to take credit when job numbers go up, but is happy to blame the global economy if jobs are lost. (The Canadian Press)




The B-C government will soon unveil a program to get more people off social assistance by offering them work in the northern part of the province.

Finance Minister Kevin Falcon says the government is working with the private sector to provide training and airfare for employable welfare recipients to travel north for work.

He says accommodation would be provided for the workers in a growing area of the province.

The announcement comes on the same day that Premier Christy Clark says the province has created almost 40-thousand jobs in the last year -- although some of that work was created before she touted her jobs plan six months ago. (CHNL)




B-C's health minister says a group of anesthesiologists is trying to hold patients hostage with a threat of job action starting April 1st.

Mike de Jong it's an unprofessional and unethical move over money by the group of 400 doctors who make about 340-thousand dollars a year.

The specialists want a seat at the negotiating table with the B-C Medication Association and the Health Ministry, claiming it's not being represented by the B-C-M-A.

The government has asked the B-C College of Physicians and Surgeons to censure the group. …
