Deadline set for Northern Gateway report

OTTAWA -- The federal government says an environmental assessment and report on the controversial Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline project across British Columbia and Alberta must be completed by the end of next year. In a letter to the joint review panel examining the $6-billion proposal, Environment Minister Peter Kent and National Energy Board chairman Gaetan Caron set a deadline of Dec. 31, 2013, for the report. Manitoba premier calls byelection for Sept. 4

WINNIPEG -- Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger has called a byelection in the constituency of Fort Whyte for Sept. 4. The south Winnipeg seat became vacant this week when former Tory leader Hugh McFadyen stepped down as an MLA.

Saskatchewan coffers take financial hit

REGINA -- The Saskatchewan government's finances have taken a hit from a drop in oil revenue and Crown land sales. The province says in its first-quarter financial report that overall revenue is forecast to be down $113.2 million from the March budget. PHOTO.

REGINA -- A Regina man has been found guilty of manslaughter for smothering his former fiancee's toddler son. Jason Will, who is 25, is to be sentenced Aug. 29.
