CIB Nabs Suspects Hiding Amphetamine in Cellphone Cases

The China Post news staff --The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB, [...]) Friday busted a drug smuggling ring, arresting two masterminds and seizing 117 grams of amphetamine and other related criminal evidence, according to a press release issued yesterday by the CIB.

The CIB was tipped off in May that a drug smuggling ring sneaked into the mainland and smuggled amphetamine to Taiwan by packing the drugs into Taiwan-bound international courier parcels. In June, the public security authorities informed the CIB of a smuggling ring allegedly hiding amphetamine in iPhone cases couriered to Taiwan.

Chinese public security officers also provided information in June that the ring was hiding drugs in cellphone cases, helping Taiwanese investigators close in on the two suspects.

The CIB's Division 3 and the Keelung harbor police unit set up a joint investigative task force in June.

Following several months of investigation, the task force located the masterminds, surnamed Liu and Cheng, in Taipei and New Taipei City, respectively. …
