Shtrevensky Sweeps Novice Competition at Canadian Gymnastics Championships

Shtrevensky dominates Canadian championships

OTTAWA - Rhythmic gymnast Alexandra Shtrevensky of Montreal swept all events in the novice competition at the Canadian gymnastics championships Sunday.

Shtrevensky won the all around title with a total score of 44.950 points over two days of competition, topping the field in the hoop, ball, clubs and free routines to complete her medal sweep.

Diana Noskova of Toronto won silver all around and Vancouver's Polly Krivchun took the bronze.

The 12-year-old was barely able to lift the large trophy to go along with the five gold medals hanging from her neck as she stepped off the podium.

"I didn't think I had a chance to win everything," said Shtrevensky, who placed seventh all around at last year's Canadian championships.

"I was hoping to be somewhere between top five and top three. I did my hoops and clubs routines really well and I think that helped a lot."

In Sunday's other events, 2012 junior champion Patricia Bezzoubenko of Toronto dominated the first two events in the high performance senior qualification with a total score of 33. …
