TAIPEI, Taiwan -- President Ma Ying-jeou said yesterday that the government will be releasing 4G licenses at year-end, in order to create new opportunities for the wireless telecommunications sector and help Taiwan become more in sync with the digital age.

The president made the above comment during the opening ceremony of a technology summit held at the Taipei International Convention Center.

Nations across the globe are eyeing further development in related industries, and by releasing 4G licenses, Taiwan will create new opportunities in its telecommunications sector, while the public will gain better access to high quality services.

With coming of the digital age, the government has included the "Intelligent Taiwan" program ([...]) as part of its i-Taiwan 12 Projects ([...]), which aims to transform the island into the world's number one wireless broadband region and effectively boost its soft power, Ma said. …
