Lawsuit filed in armoured car guards shooting

--

EDMONTON - The families of two armoured car guards who were shot and killed by a co-worker at the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton have filed lawsuits.

The wrongful death claims name convicted killer Travis Baumgartner and G4S Cash Solutions, the company the guards were working for.

Eddie Rejano and Brian Ilesic were killed on June 15, 2012, while they were servicing an ATM machine at the university's HUB mall.

Their families allege in statements of claim that G4S was negligent and didn't ensure the men's safety.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

G4S declined comment.

A third guard, Michelle Shegelski, was also killed and a fourth co-worker, Matthew Schuman, was seriously injured by a gunshot to the head.

Baumgartner pleaded guilty last September to one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

He was sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 40 years. …
