Criminal Investigation Bureau Arrests Man over Mainland Male Model Rapes

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) apprehended a middle-aged man in Taipei on Monday for allegedly drugging and raping a dozen male models in mainland China, including one who died from a drug overdose.

The CIB yesterday handed the suspect to the Shihlin District Prosecutors Office in Taipei, which pressed for his detention for allegedly committing multiple sex crimes and one homicide.

CIB officers nabbed the suspect, 42-year-old Japanese-Taiwanese man Lu Po-wen ([...]), in his Taipei home in front of his mother after tip-offs from Chinese police. The Taiwan authorities also uncovered over 70 date rape drug pills, 11 sleeping pills and other drugs at the scene. Lu was reportedly surprised by the arrest and broke into tears in front of his shocked mother.

Lu was hired by a company in Guangzhou, China, in 2006 as a sales representative specializing in the Japanese market. He lured male models he met online to job interviews at hotels by posing as a TV station senior executive or an advertisement agency owner, the Taiwanese police said.

Lu tricked unsuspecting job applicants into drinking drugged beer, which he pretended to be the target product for fabricated ad campaigns, and then had sexual intercourse with them while they were unconscious. …
