TORONTO - Shaggy to snazzy, Mickey Henry and Pete Schmalz have just undergone transformative makeovers care of a daytime talk show and they're marvelling at their ostentatious new duds.

Mickey and Pete preside over newfound wealth and freedom after winning "The Amazing Race Canada" -- but as they assessed their slick new clothes with charming enthusiasm, it certainly seemed they had yet to notice that fact.

"My socks are sick, dude," Pete said Friday.

"Mine are like a 10-year-old's," shot back Mickey of his own colourful stockings.

"Dude, look at my boots," Pete pointed out. "You don't even have to untie them. You just unzip them."

"No way!" Mickey shook his head. "You look like a rock star."

"I am a rock star," Pete agreed.

With the deadline to apply for Season 3 of "The Amazing Race Canada" looming on Nov. 24, the eternally easygoing Mickey and Pete sat down with The Canadian Press to discuss life since their upset victory in the recent second season, which yielded $250,000, a year of free flights and two Chevy trucks.

CP: This must not be the first time you've gone shopping since winning.

Pete: I bought a bear shirt. A shirt with a bear on it. And a bow.


CP: What have you been doing since you won?

Pete: Same ol', same ol'. We've just been hanging out, not doing too much. We're going to Hawaii tomorrow hopefully. We're going to go somewhere. We can just go wherever because we have the (free) flights. We kind of flip flop. One day it's Ecuador, one day it's Hawaii. I think we're just going to go to the airport and...

Mickey: Figure it out.


CP: What was it like returning home (to Parry Sound, Ont.) the first time?

Mickey: It was nuts. First time we went into Parry Sound, it honestly took us half an hour to walk down one block because people just kept coming out of all the stores. People were coming out of the funeral home to say hi to us. …
