QMJHL Roundup: Screaming Eagles take series lead


SYDNEY, N.S. - No comeback was happening on Tuesday night.

After trailing by four entering the third period, the Quebec Remparts rallied for five in the period but it wasn't enough as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles hung on for a 6-5 win in Game 3 of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League first-round playoff series.

The win gives the Screaming Eagles a 2-1 series lead over the Memorial Cup host.

Loik Leveille scored twice and added an assist for Cape Breton, while Marcus Hinds had a goal and three assists. Bradley Lalonde had the winner with Clark Bishop and Pierre-Luc Dubois rounding out the attack.

Guillaume Gauthier, Ryan Graves, Adam Erne, Raphael Maheux and Jerome Verrier supplied the offence for the Remparts.

Miguel Sullivan got the win after stopping all five shots he faced in 8:02. Sullivan replaced Alexandre Belanger, who turned aside 26-of-31 shots in 51:58. Callum Booth started for Quebec but was pulled after allowing four goals on 10 shots in 23:35. Zachary Fucale took the loss after making 17 saves.

The Screaming Eagles went 2 for 7 with the man advantage while the Remparts scored twice on six chances.

The series resumes on Thursday with Game 4 in Sydney.



SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- Jeremy Gregoire and Vaclav Karabacek each had a goal and two assists as Baie-Comeau took a 3-0 series lead by edging the Sea Dogs in first-round playoff action.

Mathieu Desautels, Nicolas Meloche, Simon Desbiens, and Maxime Sy-Cyr also found the back of the net for the Drakkar. Philippe Cadorette made 36 saves for the win.

Mark Tremaine had a goal and three assists to lead Saint John. Samuel Dove-McFalls, Spencer Smallman, Mathieu Joseph and Adam Bateman also chipped in. Sebastien Auger stopped 34 shots in defeat.

The Sea Dogs will look to avoid elimination on Thursday when they host Game 4.
