Hit doc 'Going Clear' finally gets to Canada


TORONTO -- Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney didn't have to wait for anyone to actually see his new documentary "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief" before Scientologists were already denouncing it.The Church of Scientology officially dismissed the eye-opening doc as a "one-sided false diatribe," built on the testimony of "bitter, vengeful apostates." TORONTO -- When it comes to fake Canadian accents, Nick Kroll knows what he's talking aboot.Through three seasons on "Kroll Show," the 36-year-old offered a pinpoint satire of "Degrassi" -- as well as the idiosyncratic language and political attitudes of Canada -- with his recurring "Wheels Ontario" sketches, in which he played earnest, hair-flipping pop star Bryan LaCroix. TORONTO -- Actress Maria Bello says she's developing a movie about late transgender AIDS activist Marsha P. Johnson.Bello writes about Johnson in her new book, "Whatever...Love is Love," noting she admired Johnson and was horrified when she spotted her body floating in the Hudson River in 1992. Police ruled the death a suicide but in 2012 re-opened the case as a possible homicide.
