Impact look for second road win in a row

--

MONTREAL - It's been a while since any Montreal Impact player could say he was looking forward to playing an away game under any circumstances.

But with their first road win since September 2013 safely in their pockets, thanks to a 2-1 result last weekend in Columbus, travelling seems less of an ordeal.

And the next stop is Yankee Stadium, not only home to baseball's most famous team, but also of Major League Soccer expansion club New York City. The Impact visit NYC on Saturday night.

"I'm looking forward to it for sure," midfielder Calum Mallace said Friday. "It's another thing to put on your resume, that you've played in such an historic stadium.

"Another good thing about it is that they've actually struggled at home this year, so we're going to look to take advantage of that."

The Impact (4-4-2) go into New York on a roll, with four wins in five games.

But City (2-7-5), paced by 33-year-old Spanish star David Villa, is also feeling better after picking up a first ever away win June 6 at Philadelphia, ending an 11-game winless run.

NYC coach Jason Kreis likened the victory in Philadelphia to removing "a big, giant ape on our shoulders.

"A result like that could mean that ape now leaves and we can work the right way," Kreis told his team's website. "I'm hopeful being able to work the right way this week in training means we can have confidence and positivity going into Saturday."

Impact players may have felt like they were carrying King Kong until they ended their 25-game winless run in road matches.

But they can't get too comfortable. They are still only 1-1-3 in road games and the goals by Maxim Tissot and Andres Romero were their first away from home this season.

"We've struggled on the road for the last year so it's nice to get that behind us," said Mallace. …
