Air Canada Reaches 10-Year Contract Deal with Its 7,200 Flight Attendants

MONTREAL - Air Canada (TSX:AC) says it has reached a tentative, 10-year contract deal with the union representing more than 7,000 of its flight attendants.

Terms of the agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees were not disclosed pending a ratification vote by union members and acceptance by the Air Canada board of directors.

The deal, which is subject to "certain openers" over the period of the contract, covers some 6,500 flight attendants at Air Canada, the country's largest airline, and 700 at its low-cost carrier, Air Canada Rouge.

It is the fifth collective agreement reached between the airline and it employees in the last year, including a 10-year collective agreement concluded with the airline's 3,000 pilots in October 2014.

"This new, 10-year agreement with CUPE is an important development which will support long term profitable growth for the benefit of Air Canada, our stakeholders and our flight attendants at both mainline and Air Canada Rouge," Benjamin Smith, president, passenger airlines, said in making the announcement Tuesday. …
