Friendship trails open in Australia, England

HAMILTON - Connoisseurs of great trails might want to add these to their bucket lists: the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia and the Cotswold Way in England.

The two are the Bruce Trail's newest international "friendship trails." Both are remarkable routes worth considering as "must-hike" destinations, according to the Bruce Trail Conservancy, whose member clubs maintain Ontario's long-distance Bruce footpath.

The Bibbulmun stretches 1,000 kilometres from Kalamunda, on the outskirts of Perth, to the town of Albany on Australia's south coast.

A 60-kilometre portion -- Balingup to Donnelly River Village -- will be inaugurated Nov. 1 as a Bruce friendship trail. …
