TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) yesterday said it has yet to receive confirmation from the U.S. government on when Taiwan will be able to buy Perry-class frigates.

Christine Hsueh ([...]), director-general of MOFA's Department of North American Affairs, said both sides have remained in close contact regarding the U.S. arms sale issue.

However, so far the ministry has not received an update from Washington on when it will officially approve the sale of the Perry-class frigates.

Hsueh made the remarks when asked to comment on a senior opposition party official's Monday statement that the U.S. will officially approve the sale next month.
