Team North America names assistant coaches

TORONTO - Jon Cooper, Peter DeBoer, Dave Tippett and Jay Woodcroft will serve as assistant coaches for the 23-and-under Team North America at the World Cup of Hockey.

They'll work under head coach Todd McLellan.

Cooper, a dual citizen from Prince George, B.C., is known for his efforts with younger players with the Tampa Bay Lightning and in the American Hockey League.

The 48-year-old led the Lightning to the Stanley Cup final last spring and won the AHL's Calder Cup with the Norfolk Admirals in 2012.

DeBoer, who coaches the San Jose Sharks after stints with the New Jersey Devils, won the Memorial Cup with the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers in 2003.

The Dunnville, Ont., native led the Devils to the 2012 Cup final and has been an assistant for Canada at the world championships four times. …
