Taxi Passengers Can Pay Cab Fares with EasyCard

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan Taxi ([...]) passengers can now swipe EasyCards to pay for rides in all of the company's cabs nationwide, other than vehicles still awaiting card reader installations, the firm and EasyCard Corp. ([...]) announced on Thursday.

Amid stiff competition from ride-hailing service giant Uber, local taxi companies have introduced a myriad of new services, including Taiwan Taxi's extending of contactless payment services to all vehicles in its fleet or M-Taxi's ([...]) new taxi-hailing app "178."

Taiwan Taxi, having been in business for more than 10 years, is the most established and owns the largest taxi fleet in the country, EasyCard Corp. stated.

"Our drivers no longer need to fumble in their pockets for change, and it will save the passengers from hassle," EasyCard Corp. Chairman Kenneth Lin ([...]) said.

There is no discount for fares, but Lin stressed that 10 "UUPON points" would be given to customers for every payment they make in taxis using their EasyCard, in cooperation with 16 banks. …
