3 Black Hawk Helicopters Arriving to Join the NASC

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Three UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters that will be joining Taiwan's National Airborne Service Corps (NASC) are scheduled to arrive in the country next week, local media has reported.

The choppers are expected to arrive in Taiwan via sea transport on Dec. 17, along with a batch of Black Hawks to be sent to the R.O.C. Army, local newspapers quoted a senior government official who prefers to stay anonymous as saying on Thursday.

The helicopters are part of a US$3.1 billion arms sale package including a total of 60 Black Hawk choppers announced by the U.S. in 2010.

Of the 60, 15 will be joining the NASC under the Ministry of the Interior (MOI). The rest are joining the Army Aviation Special Forces.

Six of the 15 will be equipped with the latest generation of FLIR Systems thermal imaging cameras, components and imaging sensors to enhance the NASC's capabilities in conducting nighttime rescue missions, reports said. …
