Weekend gun violence rages in Toronto

TORONTO - The dead and wounded were piling up in Toronto as gun violence raged through the weekend.

Two men were rushed to hospital late Sunday night with wounds described by paramedics as life-threatening after a shooting in the north end of the city.

It was just the latest in a spate of bloody violence that began Friday afternoon when a man was shot and killed while sitting in a car in the city's downtown entertainment district. Police have identified him as Joel Alexander, 28, of Toronto.

Later the same day another man died of his wounds after police said he was gunned down at a plaza in North York. Police say Dwayne Smith, 38, of Toronto, died of a single gunshot wound.

Then on Saturday evening shots rang out again -- this time outside a residential building in northwest Toronto where a baby shower was being held. …
