Abel, Bouchard Win Titles at Winter Nationals Diving Competition

Abel, Bouchard win national titles

SASKATOON - Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., and Maxim Bouchard of St. Constant, Que., won gold in the women's three-metre and men's tower, respectively, by less than four points each on Sunday at the winter nationals diving competition.

Abel nailed her last dive, a back 2 1/2 somersaults, for big points to place first with 375.85 points. Pamela Ware of Beloeil, Que., took the silver at 372.65 and Caeli McKay of Calgary was third at 294.25.

"I met all my objectives today in terms of the quality of my dives and the technique,'' said Abel. ''Pamela and I were in a real battle and it was fun to see us both dive so well with no room for error."

On men's 10-m tower, Bouchard was first at 455.25, edging Vincent Riendeau of Pointe-Claire, Que., in second at 452. …
