Filion, Waples up for harness driver award

Veterans Sylvain Filion and Randy Waples are driver of the year nominees for the O'Brien Awards recognizing excellence in Canadian harness racing.

Filion is seeking his third driver's award while Waples is after his fourth. Both drivers are from Milton, Ont.

Standardbred Canada also announced Monday that Richard Moreau of Puslinch, Ont., and Jimmy Takter of East Windsor, N.J. are up for trainer of the year, while Ron Adams of Lasalle, Ont., and Clarke Steacy of Lansdowne, Ont., are nominees for the future star award.

Travis Cullen of Airdrie, Alta., and Ian Moore of Guelph, Ont., are candidates for the horsemanship award while William Andrew of Calgary and partners Marvin Katz of Toronto and Al Libfeld of Pickering, Ont., are finalists for breeder of the year.

Among the pacers, L A Delight and Twin B Thong are nominated as two-year-old fillies, Betting Line and Control The Moment as two-year-old colts, Solar Sister and Wrangler Magic as three-year-old fillies and Artspeak and Wakizashi Hanover as three-year-old colts. …
