Hockey players raise funds for hurt player

WINNIPEG - Dozens of Manitoba hockey players have laced up for a charity game to help out a player with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League who was paralyzed in a game in early November.

Braden Pettinger, 20, of the Portage Terriers, fell awkwardly into the boards while going after the puck.

Pettinger is still in hospital and has only just started occupational therapy, but his cousin, Jennifer More, says he is staying optimistic about getting back on his feet.

On Tuesday, players from all different leagues including some on the cusp of starting NHL careers suited up for a shinny game at a Winnipeg community centre.

Some played with Pettinger for years and describe him as "tough as nails. …
