TAIPEI, Taiwan--Wu Rong-chuan ([...]), Taiwan's former representative in Toronto, arrived in Ottawa on Thursday to officially assume office as Taiwan's new top envoy to Canada.

Upon his arrival in Canada's capital city, Wu and his wife were welcomed by overseas Taiwanese representatives at the airport.

Speaking to Taiwanese media in Canada, Wu said he was honored to be able to take up the position.

Taiwan and Canada have had close economic and trade relations but there is still much room for improvement, Wu said.

Building on the foundation of his predecessor Bruce Linghu ([...]), Wu said he will continue to promote closer bilateral relations on various fronts during his tenure in the North American country.

Wu previously served as the nation's representative in Toronto for nearly two years before he was tapped to take over the top envoy post to Canada in December to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Linghu. …
