STATEMENT FROM DECEASED WITNESS WILL BE ADMITTED AT MURDER TRIAL

A statement from a now-dead witness will be heard at the trial of a Cape Breton man accused of murdering a 19-year-old woman in 2006.

Nova Scotia Supreme Court Judge Robin Gogan has ruled she'll accept the "beyond-the-grave" evidence after hearing arguments for the past week.

A 2012 police interview video shows a woman, who has since died of a drug overdose, saying Thomas Ted Barrett told her that he'd strangled Brett Elizabeth MacKinnon.

Barrett is charged with second-degree murder in MacKinnon's death, with closing arguments expected Friday.

INDIAN FIRM PLANS TO OPEN SALES OFFICE IN P.E.I.

Prince Edward Island's government says an Indian software firm plans to locate its first North American sales office in the province.

Aark Infosoft, which specializes in electronic commerce and website applications, recently won a contract to digitize the library owned by a U.S.-based publisher.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the province and Canadian Nectar Products that will see the company send P.E.I. apples to markets in India and Asia.

The announcements came after P.E.I. Premier Wade MacLauchlan and Ontario's Kathleen Wynne met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of their week-long trade mission.

BACKLASH PROMPTS GOVERNMENT TO REVIEW PHARMACARE CHANGES

Concerns from seniors and advocacy groups have Nova Scotia's government taking another look at some proposed changes to a seniors drug plan.

Premier Stephen McNeil says his government is open to addressing concerns about the revamped Pharmacare program, and conceded that a letter sent to seniors didn't accurately convey the changes.

The Nova Scotia Health Coalition has complained to the Ombudsman's office over what it calls the Health Department's poor communication about the program changes. …
