Saskatchewan Premier Orders Auditor General to Review Government Land Purchase

Premier asks auditor to look into land deal

REGINA - Saskatchewan's provincial auditor will be investigating a government land deal.

Premier Brad Wall made the order-in-council on Monday.

The order says the auditor will examine whether the Saskatchewan government "followed appropriate procedures and received appropriate value" for the land west of Regina, including transactions leading up to and following its acquisition.

The issue relates to a land deal last year that saw Global Transportation Hub -- a Crown corporation -- buy 204 acres of land west of Regina.

The GTH bought it last year for $103,000 per acre, then the Ministry of Highways bought the land from GTH for as much as $65,000 per acre for one package, and $50,000 for another.

Wall said in a statement that his government did everything correctly. …
