Stampeders re-sign RB Jerome Messam

CALGARY - Running back Jerome Messam is off the CFL market.

The Calgary Stampeders announced on Monday night that they have re-signed Messam.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The signing, however, keeps the 30-year-old from becoming a free agent, which was scheduled to happen on Tuesday.

"I'm happy to get the deal done and not have to worry about free agency," said Messam. "I'm excited to be back in Calgary."

The six-foot-three, 245-pound Messam, of Brampton, Ont., ran for 1,006 yards combining his 2015 campaign with Saskatchewan and Calgary and was named a West Division all star.

Messam joined the Stampeders Oct. 14, 2015, in a trade with the Roughriders and he appeared in two regular-season games for Calgary, registering 180 rushing yards and adding six receptions for 33 yards. …
