Girl found dead in north-end Halifax home

HALIFAX - A 16-year-old girl reportedly living under provincial supervision in a group home has been found dead in Halifax's north end.

"It's upsetting," Const. Dianne Woodworth of Halifax Regional Police said Wednesday. "It was a friend that called it in."

Police were called to a private home -- not the group home -- on Macara Street shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday, where the girl's body was found.

Kelly Regan, the acting minister of community services, could not confirm a CTV report that the girl was in provincial care, saying the department does not speak about individual cases.

But she said Wednesday that ensuring the safety of children in care is the first priority, and the province would conduct its own review after any death. …
