RED DEER, Alta. - A man convicted of attacking a woman who ran into the central Alberta bush to escape and was lost for nearly two weeks has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Kevin Roy Gladue, who is 38, was convicted by a jury earlier this month of aggravated sexual assault.

Court heard Gladue and the woman were in a truck that got stuck near Rocky Mountain House in July 2013.

The 27-year-old woman testified she was sleeping and woke to find the man trying to take her pants off.

She said he hit her with an object, breaking her jaw, and she ran into the woods but became disoriented.

Gladue was given credit for 10 months of pre-trial custody, leaving him with five years and two months left to serve.

Court of Queen's Bench Justice Kirk Sisson said the attack qualifies as a "major sexual assault" and was a "brutal, unprovoked attack on a woman who was vulnerable and alone. …
