Toronto FC travelling fans sanctioned

TORONTO - Toronto FC's travelling supporters will have to do without their flags, banners and drums for the first four road games of the MLS season as penance for misbehaviour in Montreal in the final game of the 2015 regular season.

Toronto fans lit flares and damaged Saputo Stadium in a 2-1 loss to the Impact on Oct. 25.

The four-game road "supporter privileges" sanction will be reduced by one game if the travelling Toronto fans behave for the first three away outings.

The Inebriatti supporters' group will face the same restrictions for the first home game at BMO Field May 7.

"Following incidents last October involving Toronto FC supporters that caused significant damages and created an unsafe environment at the match in Montreal, we have worked closely with Major League Soccer to implement appropriate sanctions early this season to ensure league supporter guidelines are followed in the future," Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment said in a statement. …
